Senator Migz Zubiri on Wednesday stated President Rodrigo Duterte should be given the leeway to resolve how a lot time he must quell the Maute riot in Marawi City.

He believed the President would come again to Congress repeatedly if each chambers rejected his request for a 5-month extension of martial law in Mindanao and merely grant him 60 days.

“I’m in favor of the extension and I feel that it’s necessary. In 60 days parang feeling ko bitin eh. Feeling ko after 60 days babalik ulit si President sa amin at hihingi po siya ng extension,” Zubiri stated.

The Senate and the House of Representatives will maintain a joint session on July 22 to debate the President’s request to increase martial law till finish of December 2017.

Asked whether or not Congress will instantly approve Mr. Duterte’s attraction, Zubiri stated, “Well, they have my vote. I can’t speak for the others but definitely in the joint session kasi we vote jointly as one.”

“So kung overwhelming ang support ng kongeso wala din kami magagawa,” the senator stated in an interview.
