Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II hopes that Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. can now rest in peace.
“It is said that the dead cannot cry out for justice,” stated Aguirre in an announcement.
“It is the duty of the living to do so for them,” he added.
Police Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa stated that regional trial courtroom Branch 14 of Baybay City, Leyte has issued arrest warrants towards Supt. Marvin Marcos and the opposite police-suspects, which the Department of Justice (DOJ) desires indicted for the homicide of the mayor inside his jail cell on the Baybay City sub-provincial jail.
The DOJ acted on the felony complaints filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which concluded in its investigation that Espinosa and fellow inmate Raul Yap have been killed in a rubout final November 5 and never a shootout as claimed by cops.
“We hope that by the combined efforts of the NBI and of our Prosecution Service, we can really serve justice in this case,” stated Aguirre.
