Borrowing a phrase from the favored tv collection “Game of Thrones,” Sen. Risa Hontiveros mentioned that the youth ought to lead the resistance towards the obvious “rising authoritarianism” of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Yes, winter is here. The night gathers. But so is our resistance. The resistance is here. You are the resistance. We are the resistance,” Hontiveros mentioned throughout a discussion board on the St. Scholastica’s College in Manila on Tuesday.
Hontiveros, a staunch critic of the President’s brutal conflict on medication, has urged the Filipino millennials to paved the way towards the federal government’s rising authoritarianism.
“We stand here because we want to send a clear and strong message to this government. We stand here today to tell this government that the millennials are watching. That you are not blind,” she mentioned.
“I have seen firsthand your courage and patriotism. We will take back the democracy they are stealing from us. We know this darkness will pass because you, the young have the light,” mentioned Hontiveros, a critic of the President’s conflict on medication.
The Youth SONA was organized by#YouthResist, a broad coalition of various youth and scholar teams such because the Millenials Against Democracy (MAD), the Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), and Akbayan Youth.
