While nobody has been appointed to go the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has determined to take over.

The Secretary has issued Department Order No. 505 which acknowledged that he shall straight supervise the administration and operations of the BuCor, which aren’t inside the ministerial powers of its Officer-in-Charge.”

Aguirre had appointed BuCor Administrative Division Chief Rey Raagas as the officer-in-charge of the Bureau the similar day retired Chief Superintendent Benjamin Delos Santos resigned as BuCor Director General on July 13.

Also in Aguirre’s order, the Secretary mentioned “the concerned officials and employees of the BuCor are directed to submit and bring to the undersigned’s attention all matters that are beyond the authority of the BuCor Officer-in-Charge.”

Delos Santos stepped down from his post following Aguirre’s revelations of a revival of the narcotics commerce at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
