It’s applicable that I write this text on the eve of my marriage ceremony anniversary (Happy 13th, Hon!), because it was my husband Rob who obtained me hooked on this new drama on HBO, “Westworld.”

It is loosely primarily based on the 1973 movie written and directed by Michael Crichton (“Jurassic Park,” “Andromeda Strain”) and starring Richard Benjamin, James Brolin and Yul Brynner.

It’s a few futuristic amusement park populated by robots with which human company can work together, in each possible means—title it, they’ll have interaction in gun duels, determine in bar brawls and, sure, even have intercourse. All is hunky-dory till, in fact, one thing goes unsuitable—which it does.

The 2016 model has one similarity to its predecessor: two pals (William, performed by Jimmi Simpson, and Logan, portrayed by Ben Barnes)—one a beginner and the opposite a frequent visitor, go to the park, which is populated by androids.

However, on this model, the robots are known as hosts, and we actually get down to the nitty-gritty of how this park got here to be, how far the company get to go, and the way there appears to be rather more humanity within the hosts than within the company.

“Westworld” stars Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford, Ed Harris as The Man in Black, James Marsden as Teddy Flood, Luke Hemsworth as Stubbs, Jeffrey Wright as Bernard Lowe, Sidse Babett Knudsen as Theresa Cullen and Thandie Newton as Maeve Millay.

Over the course of 10 episodes, the expansive park (and all of the motion behind the scenes) is laid out. It appears to go all proper at first, till it doesn’t.

Nope, I can’t post spoilers right here … you’ll have to see it for your self. I thank my husband for telling me again and again to not search for any printed articles concerning the present, and let issues reveal themselves after they’re supposed to.

Allow me to say that “Westworld” is implausible tv. It is fantastically written and splendidly acted. Nothing is ever because it initially appears, and by the top of the collection (at round episodes 9 and 10), my jaw went agape and stayed that means. This first season will certainly get watched once more from the start, however this time, with information acquired from the preliminary viewing.

Now that “Game of Thrones” is ending, I’m blissful that HBO has given us diehards one other collection to fall in love with. It is totally different, clever and can hold you on the sting of your seat. As unhappy as I will likely be to say goodbye to Westeros, “Westworld” will likely be retaining my seat within the den good and heat.

Oh, and I don’t know if these have been intentional nods to “Game of Thrones,” however take a look at the paintings behind Dr. Ford’s desk that appears just like the Hall of Faces, the very massive wolf operating by way of a city, and the pin on Logan’s western outfit’s lapel that resembles that of the Hand of the King.

There are much more nods embedded in “Westworld” to a bunch of different movies, together with the 1973 unique, “Eyes Wide Shut,” and “Jurassic Park,” TV collection comparable to “Lost,” books like “Alice in Wonderland,” and video video games like “BioShock.” You’ll additionally discover Claude Debussy’s music prominently and continuously featured.
