For the file, detained Senator Leila De Lima is not being persecuted for being a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Senator Leila De Lima’s case is not tainted with any element of political persecution,” Solicitor General Jose Calida claimed in a press release.

Liberal Party (LP) member De Lima is being held on the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Multiple drug charges had been earlier filed towards the ex-Justice secretary in reference to the proliferation of unlawful medication on the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

“The charges against her only manifest the government’s political will to go against narco-politicians regardless of rank and stature,” Calida defined.

Because of her incarceration, De Lima has filed a petition earlier than the Supreme Court (SC) which sought to nullify her arrest order.

De Lima and Calida every submitted a memorandum earlier than the SC which reiterated the factors they raised in the course of the oral arguments held by the High Tribunal over her petition.
