Supreme Court (SC) Justice Antonio Carpio stated President Rodrigo Duterte must be extra cautious relating to what he says in regards to the nation’s territorial claims.

“Avoid any act, statement or declaration that expressly or impliedly waives Philippine sovereignty to any Philippine territory in the West Philippine Sea,” Carpio stated.

“This will preserve for future generations of Filipinos their national patrimony in the West Philippine Sea,” he famous.

Carpio reacted to statements made by Duterte, who expressed his hesitation on going to battle towards China following the regional heavyweights continued plans to construct buildings on the disputed Scarborough Shoal.

Carpio stated Duterte ought to file a powerful formal protest towards the Chinese’s constructing exercise.

“This is the least that the President should do. This is what the Vietnamese did recently when China sent cruise tours to the disputed Paracels,” stated Carpio.
