Solicitor General Jose Calida expressed confidence the Supreme Court (SC) will proceed to uphold President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation No. 216 which declared martial law and suspended habeas corpus over Mindanao.

Just this Friday (July 21), Albay Representative Edcel Lagman and fellow petitioners filed a movement for reconsideration which requested the SC to not junk their petition which sought the nullification of Proclamation No. 216.

“I see the Motion for Reconsideration on the Martial Law Decision having two chances: nil and none,” learn Calida’s post on his Twitter account.

Just final July four, 11 justices of the SC voted to dismiss their petition and, as an alternative, upheld Proclamation No. 216.

Three different justices together with Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno voted to partially grant the petition by limiting the imposition of martial law solely to sure areas in Mindanao.

Only Justice Marvic Leonen voted to grant the petition to nullify Proclamation No. 216.
