Senator Paolo Benigno Aguirre Aquino IV on Tuesday insisted that it’ should be the folks and not President Rodrigo Duterte who should resolve their village leaders.
The opposition senator objected to the suggestions of the committees on electoral reforms and finance that allowed Duterte to nominate officers-in-charge (OICs) as barangay officers vice these incumbents who had been within the “duly confirmed and validated drug list provided to and in possession of the President.”
“Ang taumbayan, hindi ang Pangulo, ang may karapatang pumili ng kanilang pinuno sa barangay. We stand firmly against appointing barangay officials and concentrating power in Malacanang,” he mentioned.
In addressing village officers in narco-politics, Aquino mentioned the federal government should as a substitute step up its investigations to reveal the criminals and produce them to justice.
“We must not surrender our right to elect our leaders and destroy the building blocks of our democracy,” the senator mentioned.
