GUNSAN, South Korea (Reuters) — The United States and South Korea air forces carried out a joint drill on Thursday (April 20) at Gunsan Air Base, amid mounting tensions on the Korean peninsula.

About 1,500 US and South Korean pilots participated within the annual Max Thunder train, with 80 plane together with F-16s and F-15Ks mobilized from each side, in a bid to spice up cooperation in fight conditions.

Tension has escalated sharply on the Korean peninsula, amid issues that reclusive North Korea could quickly conduct a sixth nuclear take a look at.

This, after Washington stated over the weekend that it was diverting the plane service strike group Carl Vinson towards the Korean peninsula in a present of pressure.

Poverty-stricken, reclusive North Korea and the wealthy, democratic South are technically nonetheless at battle as a result of their 1950-53 battle led to a truce, not a peace treaty.

About 28,500 US troops are stationed in South Korea in joint protection with the South’s forces in opposition to North Korea.
