Congress ought to fulfill its Constitutional responsibility to review the declaration of martial law in Mindanao despite the Supreme Court’s determination affirming its constitutionality, Vice President Leni Robredo mentioned.
In an announcement Tuesday (July four), Robredo mentioned Congress should review Proclamation No. 216 “on behalf of the people.”
Both the Senate and House of Representatives have refused to maintain a joint session to talk about martial law, saying there isn’t a want for it since Duterte’s proclamation is not going to be revoked.
Robredo mentioned the SC’s determination on martial law is an affirmation of the democratic course of set within the Constitution.
“This is an important component of the mandated checks and balances to martial law,” she mentioned.
Voting 11-Three-1, the Supreme Court junked the petitions questioning Duterte’s foundation for declaring martial law.
