Senators Francis Pangilinan and Franklin Drilon slammed Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II’s declare that opposition lawmakers met in Marawi City final May to speak to the Maute group.

Pangilinan, president of the Liberal Party, stated Aguirre’s newest accusation is nothing more than an try and deflect the subject from the scandals surrounding his workplace.

“Every false accusation Aguirre makes against the LP results in further damage to his credibility,” he stated.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon dismissed as a mere “hogwash” Aguirre’s charges in opposition to Aquino as properly Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV who’s a fellow member in the minority bloc.

“This is pure nonsense and this is the nth time Aguirre has come up with baseless accusations linking the LP to destabilization efforts,” Pangilinan stated.

No lower than Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana and National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. cleared the LP from such charges throughout their closed-door briefing on the Marawi scenario some two weeks in the past in the Senate.

“We asked them point blank if they had intelligence information linking LP or the opposition to the Marawi incident and both denied having any such information. Even DTI (Department of Trade and Industry Sec. Ramon) Mon Lopez went on record to say that Aquino was in Marawi for a DTI GoNegosyo event,” Pangilinan identified.

That makes three Cabinet secretaries refuting Aguirre’s unfounded claims, the senator added.
