President Rodrigo Duterte mentioned he would order the arrest of National Democratic Front (NDF) consultants ought to the New People’s Army step up its attacks in opposition to the federal government even amid the continued gunfight with terrorists in Mindanao.

In a speech on the 119th anniversary of the Philippine Navy in Davao City Wednesday (May 30), Duterte recalled the efforts he made to present goodwill to the communists.

“I tried to talk to you, as a matter of fact, conceding almost — ni-release ko halos lahat ang mga preso ninyo,” he mentioned.

“And if there is a breakdown in the peace and order here because of the participation of the communists in this war against the ISIS, kung gusto ninyong tumulong sa kabila, magpuntahan na kayo lahat,” Duterte added.

The President mentioned he wouldn’t have qualms about ordering the arrest of the NDF consultants, even the aged, so “they will just die there inside the prison.”

“But I am warning the leaders whom I have released and who are now talking to the representatives of my government: Do not attempt to come home. I will arrest all of you and throw you to the slammer,” he mentioned.

At least 19 NDF consultants have been freed by the federal government final 12 months so they may take part within the peace talks.

But over the weekend, the federal government mentioned it won’t participate within the fifth spherical of peace negotiations with the NDF in mild of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ directive to the NPA to proceed its offensive in opposition to the federal government even when martial regulation is in place in Mindanao.
