Issuing a public apology can be the “honorable way out” for Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to save himself from dealing with a doable ethics case earlier than the higher chamber.
Sen. Tito Sotto III made the comment when requested whether or not Trillanes should apologize to his colleagues in the higher chamber who earned his ire when he known as them names.
“Of course. Yes, it could be the honorable way out. As far as I’m concerned, instead of saying it’s the easiest way out, it’s the honorable way out,” he stated.
But Sotto, chairman of the ethics panel, clarified that he’s not personally asking Trillanes to apologize in public for calling some members of the Senate majority bloc as “puppets” of Malacanang.
Asked whether or not it’s time to deliver Trillanes to the ethics committee, as steered by Sen. JV Ejercito supposedly for tainting the Senate’s picture, Sotto stated:”It is discovered in our guidelines.”
“As far as I’m concerned I will stop myself further from commenting about it because I’ll be chairman of the committee. So mas mabuting ‘di muna ako mag ko-comment about it,” the senator stated.
“I would rather not indulge into the talks about it because I’m the chairman of the Committee on Ethics. Kapag may nagsampa sa akin ng complaint, then I’ll have to hear it and I’ll have to be make myself as neutral as possible,” he stated in a discussion board.
He added, “So, it is very difficult for me to comment now. Kaya nga originally nung narinig ko ‘yan, ang sabi ko mas mabuti na ‘di ko na muna patulan ‘yan.”
