QUEZON City, Philippines (March 20) – “Sa dinami-dami pa naman ng gustong malimutan, ikaw pa ang naiwan sa puso’t isipan…”

Those are the phrases that my officemates needed to endure listening to for an hour after watching Sa Wakas, A Pinoy Rock Musical, as I sing the strains on the prime of my lungs with my not-so-good singing voice. Years after its profitable first run on the PETA Theater in 2013, Sa Wakas, A Pinoy Rock Musical, managed to stage one other profitable run final January 2017.

Held on the Power Mac Center Spotlight in Makati, the weekends of the primary two months of 2017  have been thrilling not only for theater lovers but in addition for OPM lovers as they bought to witness once more a musical that offers with the cruel actuality that even the right relationship may crumble.

Written and directed by Andrei Nikolai Pamintuan, Sa Wakas options the songs of the enduring Pinoy rock band Sugarfree, which has Ebe Dancel because the lead vocalist. Considering that it’s Sugarfree’s songs that they’re utilizing, it’s secure to imagine that the play would revolve round a love story.

It’s all about Topper – performed by Pepe Herrera – a man who wishes to make a respectable residing out of his ardour, which is images; Lexi – performed by Caisa Borromeo – a medication graduate who goals to make it massive within the area of her chosen endeavor; and Gabbi – performed by Maronne Cruz, author in a journal. It is a story of affection and the way attaining one’s goals can both make them or break them aside.

Songs of the stated band had been totally organized and laced by musical director Ejay Yatco, who confessed that arranging the music for Sa Wakas was a little bit of a problem for him. In an interview he stated: “What I wanted to do was to keep the ‘Sugarfree sound’ because for some people that’s sacred, but I also wanted to put my own sound. So the challenge was merging Ebe’s sound with my sound. Ebe’s sound is Pinoy rock, but my sound is Broadway. So if you mix the two, what’s the sound? You’ll find out when you watch the show.”

The current run had some unbelievable additions, too. Live violin and different devices had been used throughout the performances to completely set the temper and feelings as you watch the play. With a  comparatively small venue because the Power Mac Center Spotlight, the usage of stay musical devices by some means jogged my memory of the grandiose musical exhibits that had been being staged on the Cultural Center of the Philippines and sure, it actually added drama and feels as you witnessed the deteriorating love story of Topper and Lexi.

Aside from being entertaining, the musical additionally inculcated values and helpful life classes. The songs had been well chosen because the story progressed, making the viewers notice that, generally, we actually depend on songs or music when our precise ideas and phrases fail us. Bringing Filipino music to a different degree, realizing that the expertise of our musicians is infinite. This musical made you are feeling nice about being a Filipino too, realizing that it has an all-Filipino manufacturing group, from workers and crew as much as the actors. What a good strategy to open the 12 months for the native theater business.
