Vice President Leni Robredo hopes President Rodrigo Duterte will give an assurance that the declaration of martial law in Mindanao gained’t pave the way in which for abuse to ease fears of those that see the ghost of authoritarian rule from the time of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.

In an interview in Iligan City Monday (May 29), Robredo stated there are various individuals who are not looking for the darkish days of martial law underneath Marcos repeated throughout Duterte’s time period.

“Kaya iyong parati nating… pinapahayag natin iyong pangamba sa pagnanais na sana ma-assure naman tayo ng Pangulo, ma-assure tayo ng AFP at saka ng PNP, na kahit nagdesisyon na ganitong drastic na deklarasyon, masiguro sana na wala nang pang-aabuso, masiguro na hindi ito magiging daan para mas maging madilim pang ulit iyong pinagdaanan natin,” she stated.

Robredo, nonetheless, stated she helps Duterte’s declaration of martial law as it’s obligatory in combating the terrorism menace posed by the Maute group.

Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao on May 23 amid the continued conflict between the Maute group and authorities forces.

The Vice President visited Iligan City to test on the situation of wounded troopers the residents of Marawi City who evacuated due to the battle of their hometown.
