Vice President Leni Robredo is hoping that the household of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos is sincere in the need to return the ill-gotten wealth they amassed throughout his presidency.
Facing reporters in Baguio City Wednesday (August 30), Robredo stated the Marcoses’ offer to return a few of their wealth, as revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte, raises just a few questions.
“Iyong una, siguro iyong tanong: Is that an admission? Is that an admission na talagang mayroong ill-gotten wealth? Pangalawa, kung sincere, tingin ko dapat sana matagal na itong ginawa,” she stated.
While it’s by no means too late for the Marcoses to return the cash they stole from Filipinos, Robredo stated they need to give again to the nation all the pieces they didn’t legally purchase.
“Saka kung may ibabalik, hindi lang noon pa, pero dapat lahat. Lahat na ill-gotten kailangang ibalik, kasi pag-aari ito ng mga Pilipino,” she stated.
Asked if she believes the Marcoses are sincere in their offer, Robredo stated: “Ang makakapagsabi kasi sila lang. Iyong tayo naman, narinig lang natin sa balita, kaya hindi first-hand iyong ating information. Sana totoo. Pero sana bilisan, sana buo.”
Duterte stated an emissary of the Marcoses have talked to him to relay their willingness to return a few of their wealth, together with just a few gold bars.
Citing data from the unnamed emissary, the President stated the Marcos patriarch solely amassed the wealth for the nation’s sake as a result of there was a time when the financial system confronted powerful occasions beneath his rule.
