For forensic professional and University of the Philippines professor Raquel Fortun, the tragedy on the Resorts World Manila hotel-casino felt eerily like déjà vu.

In her Facebook account, Fortun mentioned the incident felt like a repeat of the 1996 fire on the Ozone Disco the place 162 individuals died.

“Same same walang nagbago kawawa ang patay at namatayan (It’s the same thing. There have been no changes. I pity those who died and those who lost their relatives),” she posted on her Facebook account.

Though nobody acquired shot by the armed suspect Jessie Carlos through the incident, 37 individuals died from suffocation through the fire began by Carlos on the hotel-casino.

The house owners and administration of Ozone Disco have been blamed for negligence and for having violated fire laws leading to a number of deaths.
