PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will not stress Congress to move the proposed tax reform measure “in full and in haste.”
Sen. Frank Drilon on Wednesday stated the President was now open to revise the tax reform invoice in distinction to his assertion on July 24 whereby he wished Congress to move the invoice with none revisions.
The President on Tuesday afternoon summoned eight senators and a pair of congressmen to transient them on safety and financial issues.
Asked whether or not Mr. Duterte requested the Senate to move the tax reform invoice in haste, Drilon stated, “No, there was no such thing. Basta we will deliberate on it. He did not impose any deadline.”
“Yes, he is open to amendments. He realizes that the Senate as collegial body will have to seek the views of each senator,” the Senate minority chief stated.
“The President accepted that the Senate will retain flexibility insofar as finally deciding the amounts of taxes. Generally, the need for a reform in our tax structure is accepted,” Drilon stated.
