Senator Cynthia Villar and 5 of her colleagues paid on their very own for the five-day “parliamentary trip” to France they’ve scheduled later this month.

Villar made the clarification Wednesday (June 14) amid remarks that the trip can be a junket.

“Kailan ba nagbayad itong Senate?” stated Villar, who’s the richest member of the Senate with a internet price of over P3 billion for 2016.

“We are paying, kanya-kanya. It’s our budget. Iyong aming pera ang gagastusin namin. Our plane fare and our hotel (accommodation), we (will have to) pay (for it),” she added.

Joining Villar on the trip are Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, and Senators JV Ejercito, Loren Legarda and Panfilo Lacson.

The senator stated their Paris trip was on the invitation of some French parliamentarians who visited the Philippines final January.

“They’re merely requesting for a return visit,” Villar stated.

While she and her colleagues could have official enterprise in France, the senator admitted they’ll spend two days on a “side trip” to observe the agricultural practices of the European nation.
