Former President Benigno Aquino lII can still avail himself of authorized treatments whilst he faces prison charges over the 2015 Mamasapano tragedy, President Rodrigo Duterte’s authorized adviser stated Saturday (July 15).
“While the time of reckoning has come for the former President, he remains entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence like any other Filipino citizen,” Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo stated in a press release.
He added that Aquino deserves due course of and the rule of legislation, constitutional ideas which he stated had been unavailable to the late Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has ordered the submitting of graft and usurpation of authority charges in opposition to Aquino over the botched “Oplan Exodus” that led to the deaths of 44 Special Action Force troopers in a combat with armed males in Mamasapano.
Aquino’s camp stated he plans to enchantment the Ombudsman’s order.
