President Rodrigo Duterte has promised to pour in assets for the reconstruction of Marawi City after the battle between the Maute group and authorities forces is over.
In his speech on the celebration of Eid’l Fitr in Malacañang Tuesday (June 27), Duterte mentioned P20 billion has been initially earmarked for the rehabilitation of the strife-torn metropolis.
“But one thing I will promise you, my brother Moro, I will see to it that Marawi will rise as a prosperous city again,” he mentioned, drawing applause from the viewers.
Duterte mentioned he will search for cash to finance the rebuilding of the town.
“Kailangan ko talaga, itayo ko ulit ang Marawi kasi ‘pag hindi, I will remain forever na kontrabida,” he mentioned.
Marawi has been left in shambles since combating between troopers and the Maute group began on May 23.
While the battle has but to be over, Duterte mentioned a Task Force Bangon Marawi has been created to plan the town’s rise from ruins.
