President Rodrigo Duterte needs two of the nation’s largest cigarette producers to pay a complete of P50 billion for the taxes they’ve did not remit via the years.
In his speech on the launch of Cine Lokal on Wednesday (April 19), Duterte mentioned Mighty Corporation owes the federal government some P20 billion as a result of its merchandise had faux stamp taxes.
Recalling the occasion when Mighty Corporation proprietor Alexander Wongchuking left cash for him after a gathering when he was mayor, Duterte mentioned: “This is how they operate and as of last count 20 billion na ‘yung utang niya. Fake taxes pa.”
Despite the difficulty of Mighty having faux tax stamps, Duterte described Wongchuking as “a good guy.”
“He is very magaan,” he mentioned.
Meanwhile, in a speech in Qatar final week, Duterte revealed that Tan, who owns Fortune Tobacco, owes the federal government P30 billion.
“In the fullness of God’s time, sigurado ako basta wala lang corruption at makuha ko ‘yung lahat ng taxes na hindi magbayad nitong mga animal na ito. Lucio Tan has almost billion, 30 billion. He has to pay. He has to pay. Lahat, they have to pay.”
