Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales stated her workplace nonetheless has remaining say on the re-investigation being pushed by the Department of Justice on the pork barrel rip-off case.

“It’s up to them if they wish to re-investigate,” Morales stated on Tuesday.

“But as I said, we are not bound by any findings over cases over which the Ombudsman has the final authority to determine whether or not there is probable cause,” she added.

President Rodrigo Duterte had sought a re-investigation of the pork barrel rip-off as he accused the administration of President Benigno Aquino III of being selective in prosecuting members of the opposition solely.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II has made preliminary steps towards re-opening the case.
