SENATOR Grace Poe is urging the federal government to be extra open in adopting new technology and “forward-looking” in addressing the wants of commuters.
Poe stated the admininstration should discover methods on how to combine ride-sharing providers like Uber, Grab, and U-Hop within the public transport system.
“We should tap available technology. Our commuters deserve to be given more choices,” she stated.
Poe, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Public Services, is ready to maintain public hearings on the franchise guidelines on ride-sharing providers and the federal government’s crackdown on “colorum” items of transport community car providers (TNVS).
“TNVS companies provide services that taxi operators have inadequately provided in the past decade–point-to-point pick-up and delivery, standardized fare, safe and comfortable rides,” she stated.
Poe stated the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board “should strike a balance between regulating TNVS and ensuring that public need for safe, comfortable, and reliable transportation is met.”
