House of Representatives Minority Leader Danny Suarez opined through the funds listening to of the Supreme Court’s P34.7 proposed funds for 2018 that he discovered nothing wrong with Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno buying a luxurious automotive, if there was funds for it.
During Wednesday’s marathon listening to, Suarez raised questions in regards to the criticism filed by lawyer Larry Gadon in opposition to Sereno, who alleged that she made a “whimsical and expensive” buy of the newest mannequin of Toyota Land Cruiser value P5.1 million, which was bulletproof, for her private use.
But Cebu City first-district Rep. Raul del Mar, who was tasked to defend the judiciary funds, stated he stated he has no data or info on Sereno’s reply to the grounds cited within the criticism.
“She has not submitted a reply because the complaint has not been submitted to the House committee on justice. Even we, members, have not been given a copy of the complaint as it has not yet been referred to the justice committee,” Del Mar defined.
He gave the same response to different questions raised by Suarez about Sereno’s case.
Suarez then commented: “The (AFP) Chief of Staff, the Chief of PNP, for their safety, can buy a bullet-proof vehicle… The sensitivity of the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is clearly understood.”
“If it is within your budget and you can buy vehicle for that purpose, I don’t see anything wrong with that,” he stated.
