The homicide charges filed against the four policemen for the killing of Kian delos Santos won’t be affected even if his parents resolve to drop the case against them.
Sen. Frank Drilon harassed this level amid issues that Saldy and Lorenza may entrust completely the case against the accused policemen to President Rodrigo Duterte after the latter vowed to search justice for his or her son.
“This is a criminal case. Ang importante rito ay ‘yung testigo. Hindi naman private issue ito. It’s a question of the investigation being done properly,” he stated on Tuesday.
“The parents of Kian, even if they desist, theoretically, that will not affect the case because this is a People of the Philippines vs. the policemen,” Drilon stated.
Kian’s parents, Saldy and Lorenza, on Aug. 25 filed earlier than the Department of Justice (DoJ) homicide charges against Caloocan City police station 7 head Chief Insp. Amor Cerillo, Police Officer three Arnel Oares, PO1 Jerwin Cruz, and PO1 Jeremias Pereda.
“Even if the parents of Kian, after talking to the President file an affidavit of desistance, ang importante rito yung witnesses, who witnessed the incident. It can be prosecuted independent of what the parents feel, because this is a case involving the public,” Drilon stated.
