Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales has denied President Rodrigo Duterte’s declare she is biased in dealing with high-profile instances, such because the multibillion-peso pork barrel rip-off.

Facing reporters on the sidelines of the 2017 Ramon Magsaysay Awards ceremony Thursday (August 31), Morales mentioned she’s mandated to prioritize high-profile instances underneath Republic Act 6770 or the Ombudsman Act of 1989.

“Alam mo under the law, the same law I mentioned, we give priority to high profile cases, high government officials, of officials who hold supervisory positions, or cases that involve a huge amount of money or big property,” she mentioned.

In the PDAF controversy, she defined that it was alleged rip-off mastermind Janet Lim Napoles who named former Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. as among the many lawmakers who diverted their PDAF allocation to bogus non-government organizations for the implementation of initiatives.

“Given the fact there was already this testimonial claim against them, nauna yan definitely. Hindi ka na naghirap maghanap ng ebidensya on top of what you gathered,” she defined.

“Sinasabi nila na selective justice daw kami. Di naman selective kasi again as I was saying, nung pumasok ako, yung majority at the present time was the opposition during the past administration. In the same manner na ngayon, yung opposition in the past administration is now the majority,” she added.

Enrile, Estrada and Revilla are dealing with plunder and graft charges earlier than the Sandiganbayan for his or her alleged involvement within the PDAF rip-off.

Duterte had cited the instances confronted by the three former senators and Senator Gringo Honasan in reference to the PDAF rip-off as proof that Morales was working towards selective justice.

He accused Morales of being “slow to act on complaints against the ‘friendly’ but quick to decide against perceived ‘hostiles.’”

Aside from prioritizing excessive profile instances, Morales mentioned she needed to work on disposing of the instances which had clogged the Ombudsman’s workplace.

“So pag sinabi nilang mabagal kami, you know I inherited more than 19,000 cases dating back as old as 1999 would you believe? Maraming natulog. Naturally, we had to attend to them kasi aged na nga eh,” she mentioned.
