Former Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano has vowed to battle for farmers’ rights even after he was rejected by the Commission of Appointments.

In a press convention Wednesday (September 6), Mariano stated the CA’s resolution confirmed corporate pursuits prevailed.

Senate Minority Leader Vicente Sotto III, chair of the CA’s committee on agrarian reform, stated 13 of the panel’s members rejected Mariano’s appointment.

He is the fourth Cabinet official of the Duterte administration who did not hurdle the CA. The different rejected Secretaries had been Perfecto Yasay Jr. of Foreign Affairs, Gina Lopez of Environment and Judy Taguiwalo of Social Welfare and Development.

Despite being rejected by the CA, Mariano stated he’ll proceed being on farmers’ aspect.

Mariano, a former congressman representing Anakpawis party-list, didn’t have a remark when requested if his ties with the Left was a consider his rejection.
