Detained Sen. Leila de Lima on Tuesday appealed to fellow senators to not use the Senate’s energy to guard the President and his household, however to “truly” discover out the reality behind the smuggling of the P6.four billion shabu from China.

Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Polong” Duterte and Manases “Mans” Carpio final week attended the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee probe on the shabu smuggling after Sen. Sonny Trillanes dragged them within the controversy on the Bureau of Customs (BoC).

“Who are the people behind this large shipment of shabu from China? No amount of intelligence funds and posturing will be enough to get to the bottom of this mystery if the Senate grants and withholds protection according to the whims of the President,” she stated.

“Mahiya naman tayo sa Sambayanang Pilipino,” stated De Lima, detained on the Phil. National Police Custodial Center on drug charges.

She deplored the choice of Sen. Dick Gordon, chair of the blue ribbon panel, to recall the protecting custody on Customs fixer Mark Taguba after he supposedly dragged Duterte and Carpio to smuggling. The committee has determined to revive his safety element upon the movement of Sen. Ping Lacson.

“As despicable as denying protective custody is, the act of withdrawing it after the witness had given information against a member of the First Family is a grave and shocking act of turning the Senate’s powers and prerogatives into weapons of oppression, tyranny and impunity,” she stated.

“It is not only an overt threat against Mr. Taguba. It is, in fact, an unmistakable act of intimidation directed at the entire Filipino people: if you cross the Duterte Royal Family, there is no protection available to you. Not in the PNP, not in the DoJ (Department of Justice), and not even in the Senate. You seek truth at your own peril,” De Lima added.
