President Rodrigo Duterte promised to face by the findings of the Department of Justice-National Bureau of Investigation on the police killing of 17-year previous Kian delos Santos.

Duterte assured that he would prosecute to the fullest extent of the regulation the policemen ought to the DOJ-NBI discover them responsible of murdering a Grade 11 pupil who was already of their custody based mostly on a CCTV footage.

“I saw the tape or tapes doon sa TV and I agree that there should be an investigation. Should the investigation point to liabilities by one, two, or all, there will be a prosecution and they have to go to jail if convicted,” stated Duterte in an interview with handpicked media reporters in Malacanang.

“But you know, let us wait for the investigation. And if the investigation points out liabilities, criminal liabilities, I will order the prosecution to the fullest to the extent of the law — to the full extent of the law. ‘Yan ang magarantiya ko sa inyo,” he added.

Duterte claimed that he would’ve commented on the problem a lot earlier had Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre not jumped the gun on him and introduced a probe.

He declined to handle claims made by the Philippine National Police that delos Santos was not as harmless as he was pictured by his mother and father and the media. The PNP has offered a witness claiming delos Santos was a drug courier.

“In fairness to the one who was killed, I cannot comment on that because there is an investigation. It could — equivocal pa ngayon eh…whatever recommendation that the NBI would make will be our take on the case,” stated Duterte.

“If the NBI says that we file charges of murder, then I’m sorry to the policemen or concerned. You’ll have to face the — the justice system. And pagka sinabi na kulungin kayo, kulungin,” he added.

But will he pardon them similar to he vowed in his public speeches?

“No, because I said the evidence… I saw the evidence. That’s why I called Bato. Sabi ko kay Bato, ‘Arestuhin mo at ilagay mo na sa presuhan’.”

Duterte has distanced himself from the cops who killed delos Santos claiming that he needn’t lecture them on the best way to go about their responsibility.

“At tsaka wala ako diyan, diyan lang sa police level ‘yan…Yun kasi ‘yung ‘go out and do your duty’, you are not supposed to commit something which isn’t your duty. You have no duty to murder a person,” stated Duterte.

“Pero ‘yung arestado na, nakaupo na diyan, barilin mo, that’s another thing. That is… That would be murder or homicide, whatever. Sige,” he added.
