Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Wednesday defended his colleagues linked to one of many personalities being investigated by the Senate blue ribbon committee on the P6.four billion smuggled shabu from China.
Pimentel urged the general public not to move judgment on his colleagues, rendering them “guilty by association” to businessman Kenneth Dong, one of many alleged “middlemen” within the cargo of shabu seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) final May.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto together with Senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Joel Villanueva, Risa Hontiveros and Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri stood as sponsors within the marriage ceremony of Dong in Nov. 2013.
Dong, stories stated, was amongst those that contributed to the marketing campaign kitty of Hontiveros and Villanueva after they ran for the Senate in final 12 months’s elections, donating P3 million every to them.
As politicians, Pimentel stated there’s nothing stunning about having plenty of senators standing as sponsors in a marriage.
“We do not say ‘no’ as much as possible (to such invitations),” the Senate chief stated.
“Nangyayari po yan kasi we receive siguro a thousand invitations to stand as a wedding sponsor, sometimes baptism sponsor pa rin.
