Malacañang has urged that the navy help in efforts to handle the bird flu outbreak in San Luis, Pampanga.
“Perhaps, if needed, the AFP can field more men to cull birds. This is, after all, no small calamity,” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella mentioned in a press briefing.
Over 200,000 chickens, geese and quails have been killed or are set to be killed by the Department of Agriculture inside the 1-kilometer radius of poultry farms in San Luis to forestall the unfold of the bird flu virus.
Abella mentioned the Palace sympathizes with the plight of poultry growers whose enterprise took a success due to the bird flu outbreak.
He urged the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Animal Industry to expedite the clearing of affected fowls “to minimize the losses and hasten the recovery of the poultry industry.”
