Senators Gringo Honasan and Chiz Escudero have given PNP chief Ronaldo dela Rosa the “leeway” on how to discipline erring policemen, together with sending them to Mindanao.
Dela Rosa acquired criticisms from some sectors, together with Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong, for delivery out to southern Philippines “delinquent cops” supposedly to discipline them.
“What the CPNP (chief, PNP) does to scalawags is a purely admin and procedural matter that is governed by law, PNP rules and regulations,” Honasan mentioned.
Escudero mentioned, “For as long as administration and criminal cases are filed against the erring cops, I don’t see anything wrong with assigning such cops to ‘difficult posts’ while awaiting their suspension or dismissal from the service.”
He added, “I don’t think they will dare bring with them their bad habits and may even learn a lesson or two from their exposure in such difficult assignments.”
Dela Rosa lately “deployed” Police Officer 1 Jose Julius Tandog and PO1 Chito Enriquez to Marawi City who had been caught on video manhandling two males who allegedly violated a Mandaluyong ordinance prohibiting consuming within the sidewalk.
However, Lorenzana and Adiong mentioned Mindanao shouldn’t be used as a “dumping ground” for alleged “dirty cops.”
