A day after an influence transmission tower collapsed as a result of a fireplace attributable to unlawful residents residing in its base, Presidential Commission on Urban Poor (PCUP) Chair Terry Ridon is demanding that the squatters be allowed to return to the 400-square meter high-risk property.
In a Palace briefing, Ridon stated he would ask for an inter-agency assembly the place he would ask the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) and the Muntinlupa native authorities to permit the 80 households affected by the blaze to proceed residing below the tower till a relocation web site has been organized for his or her switch.
“I think what we would want to see there is kung wala pa pong interim solution sa totoo lang, pabayaan na ho muna silang makabalik ngayon. I mean… to wherever it is that’s acceptable for where they can stay. Kasi hindi naman ho ‘yan actually within the tower eh. Parang within the transmission lines ho ‘yan eh,” stated Ridon who was totally conscious thet the unlawful residents themselves induced the tower’s collapse.
“ I think an interim solution can be done. So for example, we had done it in several of the fires previously ‘no. So particularly those that are involving agencies, pinabayaan na lang ho muna eh, ng mga ahensya na makabalik muna doon sa mga nasunugan pong lugar. So if that is something that can be done for NGCP, I think that is something that we would advise to everyone,” he added.
Ridon clarified that this was simply an “interim solution” as a result of he was “quite certain there are no houses yet available for all of them at this point.”
“Kasi hindi naman ho pwede na pabayaan na lang natin sa kalsada ‘yung ating mga kababayan…this is not simply a question of legalese ho ano na kumbaga, ‘o basta pag nasunog na kayo alis na kayo diyan.’ Hindi ho ganon ‘yun eh,” stated Ridon.
Aside from permitting them to return to the twoer’s basis, Ridon stated NGCP ought to “at the very least” give compensation to the fireplace victims.
“Inagrabyado na nga ho sila ng sunog eh. Para huwag na ho natin itodo pa ho ‘yung problema sa pagpapalayas po sa kanila ng ganon-ganon na lamang po,” stated Ridon.
