President Rodrigo Duterte has denied threatening to bomb schools for lumad youngsters, days after he made the comment in a press convention.
Facing reporters in Negros Oriental Thursday (July 27), Duterte clarified that he solely wished schools with out permits to be destroyed.
“Dito sa Pilipinas may batas. Bago ka makabukas ng eskwelahan, you have to have the necessary clearances and everything from government. You are using a building there,” he said.
“Hindi ko sinabi patayin ko ‘yung mga bata. Far from it actually. Librehin ko ang bata sa perdition ninyo because they will learn to be pareho sa inyo,” Duterte added.
The President then threatened to destroy schools with out permits for instructing youngsters to hate the federal government.
“Sisirain ko ‘yan kasi ginagamit ninyong eskwelahan para… to destroy the mental attitude, the mental health of the children,” he said.
In a press convention after his State of the Nation Address Monday (July 24), Duterte accused lumad schools of getting ties with communists.
“Iyong mga Lumad, they are operating without the DepEd’s permit. Kasi eskwelahan sila, but they are teaching subversion, communism,” he said.
