The House of Representatives unanimously authorized on third and closing studying this week House Bill No. 6283, which seeks to declare November 17 of yearly as National Students’ Day in recognition of the contribution of scholar activism to Philippine democracy.

The bill, principally authored by Sorsogon first-district Rep. Evelina Escudero and Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate, seeks to acknowledge the “value of inculcating love of country and social responsibility among the youth.”

The observance can be in assist of International Students’ Day, which was spearheaded by the International Students’ Council in 1941 to commemorate the execution of 9 Czechoslovakian college students who fought towards the Nazi occupation.

“In accord with the observance of International Students’ Day and in recognition of the invaluable contribution of student activism to Philippine democracy for initiating efforts to foster leadership among Filipino students, November 17 of every year is hereby declared as National Students’ Day,” the bill says.

The bill gives that an annual program of actions for the observance of National Students’ Day shall be ready and applied, with the National Youth Commission (NYC) serving as the lead company.

Under the proposed regulation, all colleges, schools and universities are inspired to increase their full assist for workout routines and actions launched by college students throughout the observance of National Students’ Day.
