The Senate cant do something in regards to the Department of Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II’s resolution to downgrade from homicide to murder the charges in opposition to the alleged killers of Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr.

But Aguirre wants to clarify numerous issues, particularly his change of thoughts, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero stated Tuesday (June 27).

Escudero was referring to Aguirre settlement with senators in assessing Espinosa’s death, through the Senate’s probe on the incident, as a transparent case of homicide until the Senate show the Secretary was mendacity.

“He didn’t lie at that time. Probably that’s actually what he thought at that time. He might have been telling the truth at that time but upon seeing the evidence or upon being ordered to do so upon, I don’t know what, suddenly he changed his mind and decided to downgrade the charges. That’s not punishable by contempt. But does he look bad? Definitely. Definitely,” the senator commented in a tv interview.

Escudero admitted being among the many senator amenable to the concept of re-opening the Espinosa slay probe within the Senate.

“I just wanted him to explain where he’s coming from because quite frankly I don’t understand where he’s coming from. Perhaps the public would want to hear his side too,” he stated.
