Senator Richard Gordon is just not about to have interaction his blue ribbon committee look into the allegations of corruption and undisclosed wealth of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chair Andres Bautista.
Gordon shared the apprehension aired by Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on the potential implication on the higher chamber the second they perform a probe on Bautista, who’s an impeachable official, as senators act as jurors or judges in impeachment proceedings.
The senator mentioned he’ll ask that the decision filed by Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III be rigorously studied first earlier than it’s referred to his committee.
“Dapat mapag-aralan ng mabuti ‘yan sapagkat hindi porket may accountability (he should be investigated already). This guy, si Bautista, as Comelec chairman, is a constitutional official. Kung iimbestigahan ko ‘yan at may mag-i-impeach, mag do doble ang imbestigasyon hindi ba?” he identified.
“We will be judging (him), kung sakaling may mag-file ng impeachment dyan at pag umabot sa amin, kami ang mga huwes. So ang mag-iimbestiga dapat dyan ay lower house, kung i-impeach (si Bautista),” Gordon mentioned.
The senator mentioned they need to assess first the state of affairs on the probabilities of the problem on Bautista ending up in an impeachment continuing, earlier than pursuing the Senate probe.
“Kung walang mangyayari dun, that’s the time we go on and probe malfeasance, misfeasance and nonfeasance in office at saka doon sa kanilang kalokohan na tinatawag na nangyari dyan sa Comelec. Ang dami na kasing allegations,” he mentioned.
Gordon expressed confidence that Sotto will perceive his place provided that the latter if very competent senator and chair of the committee on guidelines.
