Students and alumni of the Ateneo de Manila University have turned nostalgic after the administration confirmed that Manang’s Foodhouse has closed down for good as a result of the deteriorating well being of its proprietor.

Associate Dean for Student and Administrative Services Marie Joy Salita mentioned the meals institution has determined to not renew its contract as a result of “Manang’s health has not been as robust as she wishes it could be.”

The Rentosa couple, which owns the institution, determined as a substitute to “follow their original plan to enjoy as many years as possible in retirement,” Salita mentioned in a memo to the Loyola Schools neighborhood.

Manang’s has been closed since July three.

Salita mentioned the Rentosas determined to delay the retirement they deliberate early this 12 months and renew their contract in response to the clamor from the Ateneo neighborhood.

However, she mentioned the couple needed to forego the renewal of their contract “due to Manang’s health problems.”

Located close to the tennis courtroom and coated courtroom of ADMU’s Loyola Schools, Manang’s served luxurious liempo and different Filipino meals to batches of Ateneo college students since the 1990s.

Cognizant of Manang’s popularity as an establishment, Salita mentioned: “Our hearts (and stomachs) are filled with the indelible memories of the times we shared at Manang’s.”

She mentioned the Rentosas have mentioned they’ll miss the Ateneo neighborhood they beloved and served for 27 years.

“Their family would like to send their deepest thanks and gratitude to the Ateneo community for their support and assistance during this difficult time in their lives,” Salita mentioned.
