PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte should be given “ample latitude” to train his authority to decimate the Maute extremist group.
Sen. Win Gatchalian careworn this level as he voted to prolong the implementation of martial legislation in Mindanao till December 31, 2017.
Congress on Saturday held a particular joint session to talk about the President’s proposal to prolong martial legislation in the whole for five months or 150 days extra.
“We must give the President ample latitude to exercise his discretion in choosing the proper medicine to cure the cancer of terrorism, even if it may be the extraordinary remedies of martial law and suspension of the privilege of the writ,” Gatchalian mentioned.
“To this end, I concur with the President’s assessment that there is a necessity to continue the implementation of martial law until December 31 to achieve the paramount object of restoring peace under civilian authority,” he added.
