Is President Rodrigo Duterte eyeing Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II as Chief Justice?

Duterte had what gave the impression to be a Freudian slip when he spoke earlier than policemen on the police drive’s 116th anniversary Wednesday (August 9).

“You know, in the case of the policeman who are no charge, Marcos. The Secretary of Justice is here, Vit Aguirre. Not only that he’s a Chief Justice — Justice Secretary rather,” he stated.

Duterte and Aguirre had been classmates on the San Beda College of Law.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, an appointee of former President Benigno Aquino III, is going through the prospect of an impeachment as two complaints have been ready in opposition to her.

These circumstances, nevertheless, have but to be endorsed by any lawmaker within the House of Representatives.

Duterte has appointed three magistrates to this point to the Supreme Court since assuming workplace final 12 months.
