Former senator Leticia Ramos Shahani has died Monday morning (March 20). She was 87.
Shahani, the sister of former President Fidel V. Ramos, died at 2:40 a.m. on the intensive care unit of a hospital in Taguig City.
The former senator is survived by her three kids, civil servant Lila Ramos-Shahani, sixth District of Pangasinan board member Ranjit Shahani, and businesswoman Chanda Shaman.
Shahani was identified with colon most cancers just a few years in the past.
She served as senator from 1987 to 1998.
In the ninth and 10th Congress, Shahani served as Senate president pro-tempore and chaired the committees on agriculture, schooling, international relations, and ladies and household relations.
In an announcement, the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan remembered Shahani for advocating for an unbiased international coverage and what she described as “people’s diplomacy” within the assertion of our national curiosity.
The former senator, a profession diplomat, was one of many leaders of P1NAS or Pilipinong Nagkakaisa para sa Soberanya which stood in opposition to international intervention together with the incursions of China within the West Philippine Sea.
“Even during her illness, she joined the P1NAS solidarity and fact finding mission to Zambales to support our Filipino fishermen who were being denied their right to fish near Panatag Shoal,” Bayan mentioned.
Shahani’s household mentioned her wake will start on March 22 on the Funeraria Paz in Sucat, Parañaque.
Her stays will probably be cremated in a non-public ceremony on March 27.
