Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has described as a “whimsical misuse of power” President Rodrigo Duterte’s request to increase martial law in Mindanao till the top of the 12 months.

“It is totally not justified. Then again, I have already forewarned the public of Duterte’s authoritarian tendencies and this is another proof of it,” stated Trillanes.

He famous that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) management itself stated the “Mautes are down to 60” referring to the group of extremists who seized Marawi City on May 23 which prompted the President to declare martial law in Mindanao on the identical day.

“So, in other words, the people of Mindanao would be inconvenienced by martial law just to neutralize the 60 Mautes who are cornered in Marawi?” Trillanes stated sarcastically.

The validity of martial law will lapse on July 22. Both the AFP and the Phil. National Police (PNP) have really useful to the President to increase martial law in southern Philippines citing the prevailing peace and order drawback within the area.
