President Rodrigo Duterte can now not await Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año to retire in October earlier than assuming his post as Interior Secretary.

At the closing ceremony of the annual Philippine-US Balikatan workout routines in Camp Crame Friday (May 19), Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana instructed reporters that Duterte wants Año to start his job on the Department of Interior and Local Government by June 2.

Lorenzana mentioned he requested Duterte on Thursday (May 18) if Año may keep on as AFP chief on longer so it may tackle necessary issues such as terrorism however the President refused.

“No, no, no, no, no. He should be at DILG by June 2,” Lorenzana quoted the President as saying.

The Defense chief mentioned Duterte wants the turnover ceremony for Año to be held subsequent month, though a brand new AFP chief has but to be introduced.

Duterte introduced Año’s appointment earlier this month. He mentioned he wants somebody with a navy background to head the DILG due to the urgent points it’s dealing with, such as terrorism and erring policemen.
