While President Rodrigo Duterte had no qualms visiting Marawi City whereas preventing is ongoing between authorities forces and the Maute group, it seems unlikely he will make a visit to strongholds of the New People’s Army.
In a speech earlier than the members of the 103rd Infantry Brigade in Camp Ranao Thursday (July 20), Duterte mentioned circumstances are totally different now from the time he was mayor of Davao City.
“Even when I was mayor, I penetrated the places where there was fighting. Minsan pinapahinto ko yung mga NPA tsaka yung gobyerno,” he mentioned.
“Those were the days and maybe I could compromise at pwede akong magbigay but Presidente na ako ngayon. Di na pwede,” he added.
Later in his speech, Duterte mentioned he doesn’t wish to discuss to communists anymore since they “owe him a lot.” He expressed dismay on the assaults they’ve launched in opposition to troopers and the police, saying they have been merciless.
The NPA launched twin assaults in opposition to authorities forces on Wednesday (July 19). Two Marines have been shot lifeless in Palawan whereas a minimum of 5 members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) have been wounded in an ambush in Cotabato.
