Lawyer Manases “Mans” Carpio, son-in-law of President Duterte, has denied involvement in smuggling actions but confirmed transacting with the Bureau of Customs on behalf of his purchasers.
“I represent many clients who have transactions with the Bureau of Customs. It is my job as a lawyer to appear before government agencies for and on behalf of my principals,” he stated.
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV earlier implicated Carpio in smuggling, along with Paolo Duterte, the President’s son. Both males are allegedly a part of the alleged “Davao Group” concerned in smuggling operations on the Bureau of Customs.
Carpio nevertheless rejected Trillanes’ allegations.
“Senator Trillanes is imputing malice in saying that my appearance before the BOC is because of smuggling. He is just a desperate rumor mongerer who happens to be a Senator.#desperado,” he stated.
