President Rodrigo Duterte seems to have thrown in the towel so far as China’s maritime declare in the South China Sea is involved.
In his speech on the 64th Araw ng Hagonoy in Davao del Sur Wednesday (July 5), Duterte reiterated his perception that it is futile to go to battle in opposition to a superpower like China.
“It’s not the proper time to be — to go to war because it’s already been claimed. Wala na tayong magagawa. Wala nang nagawa ang America, tayo pa kaya?” he stated.
Duterte stated he is not going to be satisfied “to go into trouble” provided that the Philippines is no match to China’s navy may.
“We just somehow ride ride nalang,” he stated.
Despite being cool to protesting China’s reclamation activities in the South China Sea, Duterte stated he was decided to guard the territory that rightfully belongs to the Philippines.
“I told the Philippine — the Armed Forces, my army. You occupy the islands kasi parang ubusan ito. Bahala nang maliit lang tayo, palibutan lang natin basta nandoon tayo, even if we put just one boat there,” he stated.
