Given the destruction and death toll brought on by the battle in Marawi City, President Rodrigo Duterte is not going to be in the temper to have fun as soon as the combating between the Maute group and authorities forces is over.
In his speech at the celebration of Eid’l Fitr in Malacañang Tuesday (June 27), Duterte mentioned he was “sorry” about his declaration of martial legislation in Mindanao.
“I am not happy namamatay ang mga Maranao. Hindi ako maligaya sa hirap ninyo ngayon,” he mentioned.
“Wala akong nakitang satisfaction even in winning the war. I just wanted this thing over, and those — itong mga radicals, extremists out of the Muslim world dito. [applause] Umalis talaga sila dito,” Duterte added.
The President declared martial legislation in Mindanao on May 23 due to the combating between troopers and the Maute group in Marawi City.
Duterte mentioned he would’ve forgiven the Maute group had it confined the combating to a mountain or forested space the place there was only some individuals.
