President Rodrigo Duterte warned civil battle may erupt in Mindanao until he strikes a peace settlement with the warring Moro rebels even on the price of carving up the island area.

In a speech in Cagayan de Oro Tuesday, Duterte expressed concern that the Christians may resolve to take issues into their palms if the federal government doesn’t quell what it claimed was a riot backed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in Mindanao.

Duterte stated he declared martial regulation to forestall the disaster from worsening right into a full-blown civil battle.

“Kasi kung mag-civil war, patayan na. Hanapan ‘yan. Eh dito sa Mindanao, mas maraming Kristiyano at may mga baril na mas maganda,” stated Duterte.

“Nagbibili eh. Iyon ang delikado…we have to prevent a communal warm,” stated Duterte.
